WEEE REGULATIONS

The British Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations (2006 as amended) implement the main provisions of the European WEEE Directive. The broad aim is to address the environmental impacts of unwanted electrical and electronic equipment at end of life disposal.

The crossed out wheeled bin symbol shown here means that you should not dispose of your Effectrodeeffects pedal in the normal household waste system. You can take it to your local recycling centre – For more information on your local recycling facilities visit www.recyclenow.com.

The regulations also mean that manufacturers of electrical equipment, like us, must allow consumers to return their old equipment free of charge on a one-for-one purchase basis if they wish. This means that when you purchase a new equivalent pedal from Effectrode we will take back the original pedal free of charge and dispose of it safely or, more than likely, recycle it. In this case you must return the original item to us within 28 days of the purchase of the new pedal. You, the customer are responsible for all shipping costs.

Old effects pedals should be returned to:

The quantity of electrical and electronic waste we all throw away is increasing by around 5% each year, and dealing with this appropriately is an ever growing problem in Britian – there’s only so much space for our rubbish. Effectrode’s ethos has always been to design and construct highly reliable pedals with a lifespan measured in decades. We don’t buy into the idea of a ‘throwaway’ society, nor built-in obsolescence where electronic goods, such as TVs and computers barely last 2 or 3 years before they develop faults and are soon destined to go into landfill. We aim to make our pedals look and sound good and hold their value for many, many years just like electrical and electronic appliances used to in the golden age of British manufacturing back in the 1950s.

Today much of Brtiain’s electrical and electronic waste ends up in landfill, where the lead, mercury, cadmium and other toxins they contain leaches out into the surrounding soil and water table. This contamination inevitably has harmful effects on natural habitats, wildlife and human health. But it is possible to recycle and even repair some of the electronic items that we throw away. For instance, in the event that your Effectrode pedal develops a fault it can be repaired, in fact it’s designed for ease of repair and servicing. We stand by our pedals. Repair and reuse helps to conserve our natural finite resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill, and it also creates great technical jobs for young people! We all have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going into landfill sites and making the world a better place.
